We still need your support. Turn banner back, please.

A lot of Ukrainian Drupal developers (with thousands of other Ukrainians) are fighting for the safety of Europe and the whole globe RIGHT NOW.
Any support is valuable for them. War is not over. Please return this banner back. - 🇺🇦Ukraine bzw_Seven Lutsk, Drupal capital of Ukraine
Drupal.org was one of the first places where "We stand with Ukraine" has been a clear position. And it matters!
War is not over, and any kind of support is and will be appreciated! - 🇺🇸United States jura.khrapunov
Community support matters, please reinstate the banner

First, they vandalized Ukrainian translation in Ubuntu.
Now the world starts normalizing murdering Ukrainians like it's normal.

Ukrainians are still getting killed. Please, do not deprecate this topic.

Site moderators cannot change what is shown on the front page. This is a task for somebody who has more control over banners or blocks (most probably, somebody who is part of the Drupal Association staff).
- 🇺🇦Ukraine reflie
I strongly agree that the "We stand with Ukraine" banner should be reinstated. The conflict persists, and this is a critical moment for continued support. Let's ensure people are aware and can contribute if they can.
#StandWithUkraine

Ukrainians still need help, we're not out of woods just yet. So i think it is only fair and respectful towards them to keep the banner.

I understand that you are tired. But if Ukraine falls, war will be on the doorstep of the EU. You are tired of the banner, and we have bombs falling on our heads.

+ I would say this is still critical to support Ukraine until the aggressor is fully defeated. Please, return the banner.

And, unfortunately, the #StandWithUkraine banner was silently and chicken-heartedly removed from the Composer as well https://github.com/composer/packagist/commit/d394c8de05843d8f7789e6b37215c7a173590f5f. - 🇺🇸United States Tim D.
The Drupal Association made the decision to rotate messages on the D.org landing page. We must be able to message multiple project- and community-related social causes in this particular space. The rotation of a message here does not indicate a change in our position for any given cause, which in this case is still firmly in support of Ukraine against Russian aggression.
A year and half ago, when Russia invaded Ukraine, the Drupal Association Board of Director's made the unprecedented decision to take a public position on the war and highlight it on the website and at DrupalCons. Such action was prompted by the shock of the invasion and the knowledge of how large the Drupal community in Ukraine is. The war continues, as does the support of the Drupal Association for the Ukrainian Drupal community.
Given the requests made here, the Drupal Association will look into how we can continue to demonstrate our support for Ukraine, while understanding that there are other conflicts all over the globe that affect our communities. We are a global community and want to find a way to highlight the issues that affect our many communities around the world- while at the same time knowing that is not within our mission or frankly within our capability to be a global anti-war advocacy organization.
We ask for your patience as we think through this issue further. And I personally apologize for not communicating our plans and reasoning proactively, now realizing how such a change without explanation can cause stress.
- 🇺🇸United States rszrama
Thanks for weighing in, Tim. Very clear, and I appreciate the DA's continued posture of support for our friends and colleagues in Ukraine. 🙏🏼

Hi @Tim.
The question is not that this is a small step and it does not solve anything.
The question is whether there is a power of unity in the community and to realize that being drops when we are together we have great power.Unfortunately, it can also work the other way.
And if one project refuses, and then another, and so on, then the third one will think that maybe not now, and then someone from another field will look at open source and think - Oh! Then maybe they shouldn't support Ukraine anymore.Event if I feel tired sometimes I don't stop donating and supporting our country's army in difficult times. No! I can't even imagine how it can be otherwise!
Moreover, one of my clients (being a student) donates $100 every month to support Ukraine. I also know many other examples from the Drupal Ukrainian community where clients help to buy/search for drones, cars, medical supplies, and much more. This is inspiring and gives examples of support to others. At the beginning of the war, Upwork sent a letter saying that they were very concerned and were monitoring the situation in Ukraine, but they had no concrete steps to support, only words. Only after many Ukrainians signed a petition did they start blocking businesses operating in russia. I hope that the power was in the petition and not in the imposition of sanctions by partners or governments.
Big businesses have an audience, and when they are silent, I don't know what they are counting on. That the war will end on its own and won't reach you? Well, indirectly, it will. But here and now I have not seen any attempt from your side to find a compromise on the issue.
For example. Show a support banner (the same size as the cookie banner) on the issues and documentation pages.Tim, I don't know how long you've been with the Drupal Community, but I think many of the people who have commented on this post have been helping to distribute/translate/improve Drupal (including financially) for 10+ years. And when it comes to a little help with a banner, it looks disrespectful for such a level of organization not to do it.
I hope that you will reconsider your capabilities and priorities and find a way to support global law and justice. If you don't have the resources to implement this, our Drupal Ukraine community will help you with this.
- 🇺🇦Ukraine vlad.dancer Kyiv
No reason were provided by @apaderno for lowering the priority, so setting back the status to critical.
- 🇺🇦Ukraine podarok Ukraine
@apaderno - could you provide a reason for Critical->Normal?
Does it mean when russian bombs would be falling on Brescia we should treat that as Normal then? - 🇺🇦Ukraine podarok Ukraine
@Tim D
Thank you so much for your collective effort in putting words to this thread on behalf of Drupal AssociationThe problem here is - that in order to get support - we need to push the Drupal community, as the fact, it is reactive. Unfortunately - not proactive.
In order to get support removed - it is very proactive and silent. Surprise.
Let me make it clear.
The Banner was removed silently, without any notification about your strategy or tactics.
Let me make it more straight - Banner is not asking anything except to go to the blog post and read the message. It is not forcing people or putting any obligations. It was added not proactively to the frontpage back in 2022. It was added because we, the Drupal Ukrainian Community, were yelling and crying all around on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.I do remember words of Dries about takers vs givers.
In our case, we are asking for the Drupal community to help us find givers. We are not asking you to help us with funds directly. We are relying on the fact that Drupal.org is a very traffic-heavy site and a lot of people, open-minded people are visiting the site, which can help us to withstand genocide in the end. - 🇺🇦Ukraine podarok Ukraine
In addition to the above
Drupal stands with Ukraine
I couldn't begin my presentation without acknowledging the loss of life and destruction in Ukraine. It's impacting many in the Drupal community, which is heartbreaking. You may not be aware, but Ukraine is the sixth most active country in the world in terms of Drupal contributions. If you were to look at these contributions per capita, Ukraine's contributions are even more significant.
From https://dri.es/state-of-drupal-presentation-april-2022
The fact is
Drupal, your team #6, which is TOP6 in terms of the number of contributions, is bleeding, and dying.
You are loosing one of your shoulders, community. Significant one.
We are unable to organise Drupal Camp in Ukraine, because of the risk of it being hit by russian missile, we lost developers, who had to flea the country. We are discussing here the removal of the Banner ( accidentally or by order ) from the frontpage of drupal.org where a majority of the Drupal community is keeping silent, moving the issue from Critical to Normal, without even a word from who I mentioned in social media.
You guys, with all respect, living in what great jew, Fritz Perls, father of Gestalt Therapy, are living in Chicken shit layer, with lack of courage and responsibility.
- 🇺🇸United States rszrama
@podarok, are you trying to convince people to do something here by pointing out they're chicken shit, living lives of useless formality?
- 🇩🇪Germany aschiwi
I support this request and will get in touch with our partnership manager at the DA to see if we can use our company's premium supporting partner benefits to get this on the front page as long as this issue is still being discussed.

re: @rszrama
are you trying to convince people to do something here by pointing out they're chicken shit, living lives of useless formality?
anything that could help people to look at real facts and to save the lives of Ukrainian civilians.
Mature people should get used to reality as it is, not to some highly polished, well-looking, highly tolerant, and beautifully organized text.
In short words: "Yes"
Welcome to Ukraine, you'll see reality and the real truth.
While we speak here, Ukrainians are getting killed and wounded. - 🇮🇹Italy apaderno Brescia, 🇮🇹
@podarok Since you wanted to say a silly thing: No, even if there were bombs over Brescia, I would change the status to Critical. (Let us not mention they are still finding WWII's bombs on Brixian territory nowadays.)
- 🇺🇸United States rszrama
Welcome to Ukraine, you'll see reality and the real truth.
While we speak here, Ukrainians are getting killed and wounded. No one here is denying the atrocities being committed against Ukraine. Indeed, the people you are insulting have provided much more material support, individually and collectively, to Ukraine than a banner on a website ever did.
The reality is that insulting people you disagree with is not an effective means of persuasion, nor is it accepted in the Drupal community.
- 🇺🇦Ukraine vlad.dancer Kyiv
@rszrama
153 people here voted for getting back banner, 3 denied or has no position.
> Indeed, the people you are insulting have provided more material support, individually and collectively, to Ukraine than a banner on a website ever did.
Ok, then why it is so hard to get banner back if this is a little thing from your POV?
I don't understand if you personally helped so much (I haven't found any tweets of that by you) then you should undestand that there is no little things!> to Ukraine than a banner on a website ever did.
Do you have statistics or this is just a words?
- 🇮🇹Italy apaderno Brescia, 🇮🇹
I think that the following sentence already replies to the comment before this.
Given the requests made here, the Drupal Association will look into how we can continue to demonstrate our support for Ukraine, while understanding that there are other conflicts all over the globe that affect our communities.
It is not a matter of getting a banner back, but showing the support for people involved in other conflicts, which in some cases last from more time.
Nobody is saying that the conflict is over. The reply is not saying the request will be ignored.
- 🇺🇦Ukraine podarok Ukraine
Thank you @apaderno
For the rest of the group - there is a PM thread happening right now about how the banner was lost from the front page
I'll keep you informedThank you all for your support. It is very important to all Ukrainians.
PS.
The reality is that insulting people you disagree with is not an effective means of persuasion, nor is it accepted in the Drupal community.
I'm not asking you to love me or to respect me. Also not asking for evaluation of efficiency.
I'm asking for help and clarity.
And we are living in a world where help could be denied. But clarity is achievable even if someone decides to get offended by a scientific study I referred to. - 🇺🇦Ukraine pazhyn Lutsk
@Tim D.
Please return the banner back until the new strategy for such support is announced and accepted by the community.
An example of such silent change can play a domino effect for others. - 🇺🇦Ukraine vaza18
Please add the banner back. It gives us Ukrainians hope that Western civilized world keeps its promises to support Ukraine as long as it needs to be. And the hope makes us stronger to stand and fight together against the genocide.
- 🇺🇦Ukraine podarok Ukraine
Hi, community
Thank you for your supportHere is an update from an internal conversation with the marketing/content team
Hey Andriy,
This is the answer I received:
"I am waiting for the leadership team to get back to me - Tim's been out for DrupalGovCon, however, he's aware of the request to put the banner back.
I should have solid info once the leadership team meets next week, but I know they are working out various ways to recognize the support."She also told me in her first email that there is no need to use our partnership benefits for this.
Best,
Anja - 🇺🇸United States Tim D.
We have returned the "We stand with Ukraine" banner back to the Drupal.org homepage, with the link to the Drupal Association Statement of Support and links to humanitarian organizations doing work to support Ukraine.
The Drupal Association never wavered in its support for Ukraine. We recognize both how important the Ukrainian Drupal community is and we recognize that Russia's aggression against Ukraine has not relented.
The Association is undertaking updates to Drupal.org, to improve the user experience, better organize information, and soon to upgrade from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10. In this effort, we took down the "We stand with Ukraine" banner and have been discussing other ways to more sustainably support Ukraine and other Drupal communities experiencing violent aggression. We will continue this discussion because we are here to support the global Drupal Community and will incorporate any new approaches as we convert from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10. We will communicate our ideas and get feedback ahead of time to affected communities.
I thank you for your patience and, more importantly, for speaking up.

Maybe we should stand with innocent people on both sides? Rather than this cheap displaying a flag for "support". When you say you stand with Ukraine, does that include supporting the government that was bombing Russians in Donbas? Or is it just the CIA installed 2014 Ukraine government you support?
- 🇪🇪Estonia drugan
@Joe Huggans
Or is it just the CIA installed 2014 Ukraine government you support?
I see your comment as an insult to the Ukrainian people.
As for the "innocent people" on the Russian side, I'd remember your own country history where ALL German people were punished disregarding of their attitude to the Nazi government.
There is no collective guilt, but collective punishment still exists.
