Unfortunately in my case, upgrading from version 1.5 to 2.1, removes all previously added groups.

Bug: pre-filled fields after deletion
Steps to reproduce:
1. Add an unlimited link field to node type
2. Create a node with multiple links
3. Save node
4. Edit node
5. Remove one item
6. Add another item
7. New item is already filled

Same behavior with module multiple_fields_remove_button
