Remove webchick from MAINTAINERS.txt

Created on 29 May 2023, over 1 year ago
Updated 19 July 2023, over 1 year ago

Problem/Motivation

When I left Acquia, I had ALL the good intentions of staying involved in the Drupal community and continuing to help out with core maintainership, albeit in more of a "strategic consultant" capacity vs. being mired in the issue queue happenings day-to-day. And while I'm grateful for the collaboration opportunities that have arisen meanwhile (it was SO LOVELY to work alongside so many awesome people at DrupalCon Portland last year, for example! :D), I need to be realistic about my level of commitment ~2 years on. Reviewing/committing core patches and contributing meaningfully to the product direction of Drupal is simply not a thing I've been able to prioritize adequately since my move into the data space. :( I want to clear the way for others to take a more active role in the things that I have traditionally been so passionate about: improving usability, end user input into product direction, and maintainer sustainability.

Proposed resolution

Therefore, here's a patch.

In ideal world, I would love this not to close doors completely; if my situation ever changes and I have more time / attention / focus to dedicate to Drupal, I'd be more than happy to participate in a maintainer capacity again. But right now, my heart is with community building across open source data infrastructure, and it's important to be honest/realistic about that.

Remaining tasks

Someone to commit it for me. <3 :)

THANK YOU

I can't underscore enough my gratitude for the Drupal project and especially the community around Drupal we've all built together. Getting involved so many years ago literally changed my entire life, and the lives of so many others. We've been through a LOT together, and I'm so grateful for all of you who have become life-long friends. <3 I hope we continue to run into each other, maybe even at DrupalCon again someday! :)

I appreciate this has been a hard decision for you to make. I'd personally like to thank you for everything you've done for the project and the people around it.

You once said Drupal was three things, a content management system, a content modelling framework and a kick-ass community. The community aspect is one of the strongest assets of Drupal, and I think a large part of that is down to you.

I remember you being in my session about contributing to core at DrupalSouth Melbourne and being chuffed that you'd come to listen to what I had to say.

I also remember that you were the person who committed my first patch to core, and I'm sure that's the case for many others.

You have always been an inspiration for 'community done right' I think that if you ever did find more time you would be welcome back with open arms (hey we're all approaching retirement right, that'd be a great way to spend it!)

OK, look: I would not be here if it wasn't for you, Angie. That's the rock-solid truth. You've heard it before, and I'm saying it again. I'll never stop saying it.

Thank you for all your years of dedicated work: for the code, the community, the relationships, everything!

As with many others in this thread... you're literally the reason I dove headfirst into the Drupal community many years ago. Thank you, and I hope you continue to spread the fervor and optimistic open source love wherever you go!

  • ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธUnited States greggmarshall Aurora/Denver, Colorado

I can't count the many times I have depended on your guidance over the past years, either directly or reading some blog post from years before that removed a huge block (like how to make a table visible to Views in D6).

I'd much rather see a "maintainers emeritus" category added instead of losing the inclusion of a person who has done so much for Drupal.

Thank you Angie for all your wonderful contributions to this community, and to me personally. Without you and a few select others, I'm not sure my path would have gone down the Drupal rabbit hole. Your presence has changed countless lives, both professionally and personally.

I was going to list all the great memories here, but realized that list got fairly long. So I'll leave you with this: a photo of you asking a question regarding the Drupal roadmap at Drupalcon Vancouver 2006. It was there I met you, Ken, Adrian, and a few others that started this whole journey of mine. It was here that you demonstrated that community is what set this CMS apart from the others, making it a central part of the development process around Drupal.

Best of luck on your next journey into the data space and beyond, where you're bound to be a force for good. :) <3

  • ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธUnited States cosmicdreams Minneapolis/St. Paul

I just found out about this issue.

@webchick Thank you for all of contributions to Drupal and to the Drupal community. I can honestly say that you have changed the course of my life for the better. Thanks to a brief conversation we had in 2012, I felt seen and accepted by a large community at a time where I was trying to prove to myself that I could do this professional software development thing. You gave me confidence, helped me learn to communicate betterm and to feel comfortable taking on new adventures in open source development. The adventures since then have been numerous and the knowledge gained from those adventures have been immense. I could have not persevered down that road without feeling like I was on the right path.

As the years tick on, I think about these adventures differently. Maybe the adventures are the whole point. I mean the willingness to adventure, to discover and to story-tell about what is found. The confidence to head out there and be capable enough to make progress without letting the doubt convince you not to try.

I thank you for helping me discover that. I hope that I can make that kind of difference for someone else someday.

Your mentorship, guidance, and encouragement during the development of Help Topics as an experimental module was so vital and helpful to me as I was struggling to learn how to become a maintainer myself.
