The work on #3238306: [META] Where possible, refactor existing jQuery uses to vanillaJS to reduce jQuery footprint → is progressing but some part of the replacements create less maintainable code and introduce some regressions for contrib. Making sure that the ajax framework does not depend on jQuery is more useful that replacing all the .attr jQuery calls for example.
A few issues will be closed and credit will be ported here to make sure people that contributed to those issues are recognized.
The issues closed will mean that we keep some dependency on jQuery, I'm seeing this as going down as we replace the code when working on new features instead of a dedicated push to remove jQuery. Olivero, Navigation are not using jQuery for example.
