James here, lostcarpark. I don't think I've ever actually stuck myself to anything, but I do meddle with the stuff from time to time, and occasionally end up with touching a blob that gets pushed out when you push two halves together. Hate the feeling of it stuck to your fingertips for a few days until it wears off.

:one: :two: Any takers to lead the new first-time contribution workshop in Portland? It is fully scripted and will have been vetted a few times before DrupalCon. By Portland this workshop should be vetted by several camps and there will be no need to run two versions.

I had volunteered for this in the previous meeting. I think Chris Darke had also volunteered. This is run twice, right? So, we would need at least two people? I see there is no need to run it twice. (edited)

I'm guessing this is our last chance to refine it before Portland?
James Shields (lostcarpark)
I'm wondering can we simplify the text a little? I really picked the bullet points off the top of my head.
James Shields (lostcarpark)
My feeling is about four bullet points in each box would let us leave a little more whitespace and make it look a bit less cramped.
:heavy_plus_symbol:

James Shields (lostcarpark)
Any thoughts on refining the first box:
Grow your skills with Contribution
• Get the help you need
• Learn to use the tools
• Develop new skills
• Non-code contributions
• Tasks for every skill-set
• Build community
James Shields (lostcarpark)
"Non-code contributions" and "Tasks for every skill-set" feel slightly out of place, since all the others contain a verb.
:heavy_plus_symbol:

James Shields (lostcarpark)
They also kind of say the same thing (although every skill set includes code).
James Shields (lostcarpark)
I'm wondering can we combine them with something that includes a verb?
Gábor Hojtsy (he/him)
"Let your skills shine" (although skills is repetitive)
Gábor Hojtsy (he/him)
"Find tasks that fit you"
Gábor Hojtsy (he/him)

I think that would cover both the non-code and the every skill-set (which are very close to each other in meaning)
:one: Four: DrupalCon Mentoring tickets (New guidelines to be vetted)
- Rotating availability for equity (beyond core mentors)
- Once a year?
- Once every other year?
Requirements - by the hour? By the activity?
- Attend an orientation Bof
- Participate in Issue Triage
- Booth duty
- Year round participation
- Setting up meetings
- Coordinating with social media

I have to say that I do like these guidelines - they help us the ensure new people get a lift up into getting involved
AmyJune Hineline (volkswagenchick)
Yes, the idea is we can fold more folks into mentoring with diversifying who gets the tickets.
AmyJune Hineline (volkswagenchick)
folks who present the workshops would get speaker tickets, not mentor tickets

Nice to have something like this. I don’t think I’ve personally ever used a mentor ticket (just a speaker one). Maybe many of the core mentors haven’t either so unclear on the impact on the core folks

:two: :zero: Lead the all-new, fresh, clean, accessible and fully-scripted First-time Contributed Workshop at an upcoming DrupalCamp! Local camps are in upcoming separate threads. The goal of this slide deck is that anyone can copy it and make adjustments to cater to their own local or regional event. It is flexible enough to run as an hour workshop or a 2-hour training.

everybody does slides differently - it might just be that we do a title slide? (edited)
:heavy_plus_symbol:

mradcliffe
:drupal-mentoring: 20 hours ago
From my memory/notes, if I copied the event's slide deck in google drive, then I could import them, but it wasn't clear in Google Slides that importing a theme adds those slides to the current theme, but once that was clear, I could go through each slide and apply a different layout, then I would need to update the font and font sizes. Also any images that I pasted from one to the other had to be dragged around manually and resized. So anything to limit that amount of work to focus on the content would be great.

Could we get link the current slide deck added to this thread? I would like to pitch it to a couple of events. Having the link would be useful.

Heads up to folks - there will be a Merce festival around the same time as DC and around the same venue. So it might be best to book ahead of time if possible as I fear availability and prices may go up because all of Spain tends to gather together for the festival (or so I've heard)

I know several people have been working on docs for drupal tools in general. It would be good to ensure that there is little repetition in the docs as that always ends up out of date at some point
