Project Browser: Create a logo for Encrypt

Adding the logo to the summary.

I love the overall design, except for one small detail. I'm not a fan of text in logos. I think including the name in the logo is unnecessary, as it will be on the module card anyway, and the logo text is not accessible to screen readers.

I think there is also a lot of empty space around the logo, so it would be good if it could be enlarged a little to come closer to the edges.

I've checked how the logo looks on light and dark backgrounds, and it looks good.

Great feedback… moving back to needs work.

For what it’s worth, the text may “balance” the design… it’ll be interesting to see it with that part empty

ok first off I love the design of the key! We should use this for the logo of the Key → module. Can you submit one into the issue queue there with just the Key and I'll get that committed?

I almost wonder if done vertical and trying to think of a way to show encrypted data on the other side of the key instead of the wording.

This is great work though and I really like the direction of this, especially if we take the key and use it with the Key module since both are so related.

So... next steps:

1. Make a version with just the key and add to the Key issue

2. Create a version without the "Encrypt" text but otherwise the same

3. Create a version that is flipped vertically without the "Encrypt" and with one side of key showing the circles like now and the other side showing something that looks like encrypted data... if we don't want to include text then I'm not sure how this could look...

@lostcarpark I've seen logos with text on them like those below. If we are discouraging use of text in logos, we should update the instructions to say so. Should we follow up with Leslie on this?

Sorry, I should have said there is no rule against text on logos, it's just my personal preference to avoid where possible, particularly when it duplicates the name which is also on the module card. If there's a consensus for having the name on the logo, I'm happy to go along with that.

I see that a related logo is being worked on for the Key module, so I understand the need to differentiate them.

As an alternative angle, what would you think of a styalized version of the WW2 Enigma machine as the logo for Encrypt, leaving the logo above for the Key module?

Cool idea re the enigma machine but may be hard to pull off?

Oh I missed the point that it shows the Encrypt text above the key and the encrpyted code below. What about if it was a series of letters rather than the word?

I also belong to the same school of thought like that of @lostcarpark. I'd also prefer a logo without texts, as I believe the primitive goal of a logo is to make sense with its visual clue and not to be dependent on any textual refs.
So I've brainstormed on creating my version of this. As far as I've understood the functionality of the module, this is what I landed upon at last. Pls have a look and let me know your thoughts!

These look great, but I have a personal preference for encrypt2.png from #21.

I like both of these - question is what is the design pattern other modules are using. Is it full color border to border which is then rendered into an icon like look in Project Browser? If so then encrypt2 from #21 would be best but if the design pattern others are using is for more of a logo like icon then encrypt3 would fit that.

@kristen pol - do you know what others are doing and if there's a pattern for the design of the icons?

Hi all! I've reviewed the proposed logos as per the Review Steps mentioned in the issue summary. I like the logo encrypt3.png → uploaded in the comment #21 📌 Project Browser: Create a logo for Encrypt Needs work . The logo meets the following requirements:

1. Logo dimensions: 512x512px
2. File format: png
3. No animation has been used in the logo.
4. Image quality is fine.
5. Logo represents the module functionality.

However, the logo doesn't meet the file size requirement as the encrypt3.png logo file size is 10.2kb. Hence, I'm moving the issue status to Needs work.

Adding the Real AES logo issue as related, as I think that these 2 logos should be related.

We need to be realistic about the fact that 90% users of the encrypt module (24183 as per https://www.drupal.org/project/usage/encrypt → ) use the encryption provided by the real_aes module (21953 as per https://www.drupal.org/project/usage/real_aes → ).

As such, these two projects should use a common design for their logo. I'd urge whoever is creating the logo here to take that into account, and think about other encrypt plugins should adapt the logo.
