Update logo for compatibility with Project Browser

Created on 2 October 2024, 5 months ago

Problem/Motivation

A logo has been created by the community for your module for compatibility with Project Browser. Your current logo exceeds the file size requirement so a similar one was created. If you prefer to keep your current logo, please ensure it meets the requirements and follow the Instructions below to place your logo in the code repository
(Requirements-Create a logo that is 512x512 square dimension in PNG format without animations. Suggested file size should be 10k or less. Using the project name in the logo is not recommended.)

MAINTAINERS).
Please consider adding this logo. The logo will be displayed in the Project Browser (as well as on drupalcode.org as your project avatar, and on drupal.org on your project page).

Proposed resolution

See attached file for the logo to be used. The logo should be this exact image as we have already ensured it meets requirements for file type, size, etc.

Remaining tasks

INSTRUCTIONS: The logo should be added to the root folder of the repo, and be named logo.png. This must be present on your project’s default branch.

If you would like to test the proposed logo in Project Browser before committing the file to the actual git repository, you can install the Project Browser to a local drupal site, then use your browser tools or web developer tools to inspect the logo element and edit the src to specify a new url. For example, on the drupal.org issue the url would be something like  https://www.drupal.org/files/issues/2024-mm-dd/the-logo-file.png β†’

If you have previously added a logo as the first image in the Images field on your project page, please remove it. Project Browser will no longer be using the first image as the logo.

Note: Also attaching the logo in svg format in case furute changes are needed.

Is there any problem with this?

RE: Question from @ivnish "Is there any problem with this?" -- Are you asking from a technical perspective or a visual perspective?

If the latter, it's not clear to me why a dump truck is being used to represent Backup and Migrate.

I get the idea of using a truck to move something from one place to another (migrate), but why a dump truck? IMHO, a dump truck implies carting away debris more than it does moving to a new location.

Why not use a moving truck or a flatbed truck or something that conveys a more positive image of moving to a new home? Or, an image of a safe or storage locker to convey the idea of backing up a site for safekeeping?

Most of the proposed module logos have been so creative and represent the modules very well. I found this one a bit jarring.

    I hope this helps.

I asked because this simple issue is blocker of a new 5.1.0 release

  • πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈUnited States camhoward New Hampshire, USA

@ivnish -- OK, thanks for the clarification.

I see now your question needs to be addressed by the maintainers and was not a question for general discussion about the logo itself.

  • The truck is backing up in the image, so that conveys that part. But I agree that it's not easy to understand at a glance.

  • πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺGermany Grevil

Yea, I agree, this shouldn't be a blocker for the 5.1.0 release.

  • Agreed. Project Browser is still in alpha and not used by many sites yet. I think 5.1.0 should be released.

Hi @camhoward. Thanks for the inquiry. The Project Browser team did not introduce the dump truck. That was part of the existing logo for Backup_migrate. We resized the logo, etc to make it comptable with Project Browser. The logo we provided is a suggestion, your team is welcome to change the logo to better reflect the module if you wish. The requirements for the logo can be found at bit.ly/maintpb. Let us know if you have any questions.

Hi @leslieg -- Thanks, I understand. It seems I misunderstood the question from @ivnish and thought he might have been opening a discussion about the logo itself. Since that was not the case, the maintainers should proceed with whatever they think best.

I committed the logo files to the repo, which is a rendition of the existing logo file.

We can discuss updating the project's logo in a separate issue.

    Thanks everyone.
