We, the mentoring team, are triaging issues for first time contributors at DrupalCon Lille and I think this is a good issue for the contribution day.

I'm reviewing the logo on the contrib day of Lille 2023

The proposal 2 looks like a better candidate to move forward.
We need to scale up the image to 512px and reduce the file size further. Change the gradient shadow should reduce physical size of the image.

I tried re-designing it.

I think this captures the essence of the original proposal, but meets the image and file size requirements.

This gets my +1 for RTBC.

Moving back to needs work. I think if the image from #8 was redone with a transparent background, it would be perfect.

I think all that's needed is to make the white background from #8 with transparency. The logo in #12 adds a thick white band, which makes the actual logo quite a bit smaller.

Could you try again?

That white band was actually present in #8. Let me see what I can do to remove it.

The logo in #15 is an improvement, but it's still a little shrunk from #8.

I've put together a side by side comparison.

The first 3 panels show #8, #12 and #15 side by side.

Panel 4 shows #8 and #12 superimposed.

Panel 5 shows #8 and #15 superimposed.

#15 is still slightly smaller than #8 was. The border around the edges seems bigger than it needs to be.

If it could be made just a little bigger, it would be perfect.

#17 looks great to me.

I could do a new preview, but it would look exactly like #10.

So here's a preview showing how it currently looks in Gin theme, dark mode. There are some problems, but they aren't related to how it shows the transparency of the logo on the dark background.

I think it looks great on both dark and light background (the end of the magnifier handle does get a bit lost, but I don't think that detracts from the logo). I've confirmed it is 512x512 pixels, and the file size is under 10K.

I'm happy to recommend for RTBC.

I think the logo in 2 looks a lot more modern as proposal 1.

However, due to the many edits on the PNG file over and over instead of source file (psd or whatever), the image has lost quite a lot of quality (you can clearly see it you open the first one next to the last one and zoom in a bit). Also, the glass in the magnifier glass itself is off centre, which my brain doesn't like 😅 it's quite noticeable in the preview.

@urvashi_vora, what did you use to draw the image. Is the original in a vector format?

I've redrawn @urvashi_vora's version as a vector, exported as PNG, and compressed to under 10K.

@BramDriesen, I think the off-centre part is meant to be a reflection in the magnifier glass. I've tweaked it to be a little more centred. I could adjust further if it still bothers you. I also added a bit of a highlight to the handle to give it a little more visibility on dark backgrounds.

@lostcarpark, I used canva to redraw the proposed logo, as we were not having the original logo, so it was not possible to remove the shadow. Thus, I recreated it.

However, the logo you provided, looks good to me.

As of now, setting it to Needs Review.
