Problem/Motivation

This meta issue is here to organize some related issues that should be considered together.

The parent issue 🌱 Restructure the admin interface Information Architecture Active recommends totally re-thinking the organization of the administration menu. This issue is smaller in scope: improve the organization of the links related to Blocks, within the existing menu structure.

Proposed resolution

  1. πŸ“Œ Move custom block types admin link to admin/structure Fixed
  2. ✨ Move Custom block library to Content Fixed
  3. ✨ Add more granular block content permissions Fixed
  4. πŸ“Œ Rename Custom Block terminology in the admin UI Fixed
  5. πŸ“Œ Move block content edit and delete routes under admin/content/block to improve IA for editors and fix breadcrumbs Fixed
  6. πŸ“Œ [PP1] Move "Block layout" from Structure to Appearance Postponed
  7. πŸ“Œ Adjust the block terminology in Layout Builder to align with block and block_content changes Active
  8. ✨ Adjust to the changes introduced reorganizing Block items in the administration menu Needs work

How to proceed:

  • move the changes in regards of changing Custom block type to Block type already done in πŸ“Œ Move custom block types admin link to admin/structure Fixed over to πŸ“Œ Rename Custom Block terminology in the admin UI Fixed . That could happen right now.
  • finish the relocation of dedicated parts in point 1-4
  • work on the postponed issue 5 & 6 adjusting the corresponding micro copy. with the relocation already happened the micro copy could be evaluated in the correct context.
  • work on the necessary remaining changes for admin_toolbar in point 6
