When using the generator to create gift cards the codes are generated using mixed case. However gift cards are case insensitive so creating codes using both cases creates unneeded complexity for the end user of the gift card.
EDIT:
Upon examining the code it appears this is a bug since there is already code to convert the string to all lower case letters
Generate a new gift card at admin/commerce/giftcards/generate

Fix the code so that the code string is properly converted to lowercase.
