The help/descriptive text added to the entity reference widget is confusing to non drupal users, especially on user registration forms where users don't know what a taxonomy term is. Anyone can add help text if they want to, let's not add hard coded values to the field widget.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
Seems like a year later this hasn't been released, so dropping a patch that's rerolled for 8.x-1.15 as I'm in need of this.
