Block image derivative generation on failure

Image derivative generation has a lock, but it's released after attempting to create the derivative without checking for success. This means you'll get successful generation a bit quicker if something changes, but if there's, for example, a permissions issue on the directory, then there's nothing to stop repeated attempts at creating exactly the same image.
