Mentoring Working Group Meeting - 29 May 2025

Created on 5 June 2025, 1 day ago
  • Chris Darke 'ChrisDarke'
  • Matthew Radcliffe 'mradcliffe'
  • Rachel Lawson 'rachel_norfolk'
  • June Mentoring Meta Meeting issue.
  • James is going to run it πŸŽ‰
  • Need to update the documentation issue based on Rachel's feedback (and then James').
    • Running meetings could be a bit more personable. It does feel a bit cold
    • The nature of asynchronous
    • On the other hand, more participation than synchronous meeting.
    • Structured notes makes it feels more formal.
      • Add celebrations of success and call outs for mentors and mentoring leads.
      • How much work would that take to find?
        • Invite people to add to the agenda when we create the issue and post the issue in Slack.
        • Posting the issue in slack is not in the documentation.
  • First-time contributors workshop slides
  • Document canonical first-time contributor workshop slides in the documentation issue.
    • Need more than one canonical slide deck.
  • Rachel and James to collaborate next week.
    • They will take a look at the canonical slide deck from AmyJune as a base.
  • Tearyne took notes about the process and is waiting for a canonical slide deck to add them.
  • The slide deck "templates" from the DA / MidCamp are hard to apply.
  • Is the presenter of FTCW responsible for updating the canonical slides?
  • If there are multiple presenters, are multiple people making changes to different slides? Same slides?
    • Is the expectation of the person attending that they get the same information?
    • Yes
    • There will always be some differences.
  • https://www.drupal.org/project/mentoring/issues/3521475 πŸ“Œ Create timeline document for Event Planning Active
  • Reached out to Michaela and Nicole, but have not had any feedback. Need to schedule something specific.
  • Chris wants to get this updated within the next week for review
  • Matthew made some comments and plugged it in for Nara and I was satisfied.
  • Some things are broken with added items that Chris would like help with.
  • https://www.drupal.org/project/mentoring/issues/3522277 πŸ“Œ Determine whether we should be populating the Drupal Core Calendar Active
  • Rachel asked Tim about the core calendar.
  • Next step is to create a joint calendar with Working Groups to make sure they are okay with it.
  • Event Organizers Working Group EOWG and Community Working Group CWG are fine with meetings on calendar.
  • https://www.drupal.org/project/mentoring/issues/3521850 πŸ“Œ Automate calendar files for mentoring meetings Active
  • Anyone can review / RTBC from the mentoring team or mentoring leads.
  • Ping issue in mentoring leads channel (Matthew).
  • We are holding on this topic until the audit is complete.
  • We can setup initial GitLab pages. Split into new issue β€” Matthew
  • Matthew created issue for DrupalPod maintainership β€” https://www.drupal.org/project/drupalpod/issues/3521853 πŸ’¬ Offering to co-maintain DrupalPod Active
  • Darren has volunteered as well.
  • Next step is to reach out to Ofer.
  • Worried about a new tool prior to Vienna and writing documentation more than once.
  • Deadline in order to prepare writing documentation should be 1 month prior to Vienna.
  • DrupalForge setup is a bit longer and more involved than DrupalPod at the moment.
  • Matthew will get feedback from people at MidCamp.
  • It takes a bit longer to get setup the first time because of you have to register with DevPanel, and the spin up time takes longer.
  • Event planning lead - Chris
  • Rachel + James running first-time contributor workshop (FTCW).
  • Mentored contribution room lead -
  • Communications lead - Igor volunteered
  • Novice issue triage lead - Rodrigo tentatively volunteered if he is able to attend.
  • Booth lead -
  • Tools lead - Matthew can help remotely, not on-site.
  • Chris: no particular update other than that we discussed getting those contrib tracks defined now and reaching out to the initiative leads now to get possible tables sorted out
  • That and they are moving a tonne of stuff out of D11 in D12 eg search module etc etc
  • So core will have less things that can be novice issues
  • We need to start including contrib. specially things that are in recipes.
    • Finding safe place to send people, is it a specific set of contrib modules and/or recipes. Is it fair to say whilst drupal cms is moving fast it's still a place to send people because governance is good.
    • Governance is a requirement for curated Novice issues.
  • Contribution committee members: Anto Jose, Pooja Sharma, Matthew Radcliffe, Jimmy Cann
  • Mentoring Event Planning lead β€” Matthew
  • Ping at the next mentoring meta meeting.
  • Are there any different contribution topics from Vienna?
  • To be determined. Need to find out who on the core / contrib. teams are coming to Nara.
  • First-time contributors workshop slide deck improvements
  • Create issue
  • Rachel and James will work through the process.
  • Chris will create a theme based on DrupalCon EU slides from this/last year to apply.
  • We need a better way of
    • Determining which slides to hide/show for a given time length.
    • Providing feedback to whomever can make changes to the slides.
  • Monthly Meta Meeting issue β€” James
