After installing Redirect Match (which keeps track of redirect use, similar to how the D7 Redirect module used to) every time a redirect is used, Redirect Match saves the redirect usage data, and Linkchecker shows a status message to anonymous users "The link **** will be checked on next cron run"
Enable Redirect Match and Linkchecker, create a redirect, browse to the redirected path and be redirected.
Set a permission for that status message, or just don't ever show it to anonymous users.
