News mode

The last patch can not be applied to Drupal 10.2.

Patch for 10.2.x.

Since this is changing the UI, screenshots are needed. It would also help to explain why it is problem that the status is always displayed.

Not totally clear what is being proposed here, or why. Needs an issue summary update.

Could this be a duplicate of ✨ Improve relevancy of security update notifications within your Drupal site Active ? Seems to have a similar aim.

Looking at the MR, we almost certainly do not want any changes to core/modules/update/src/Form/UpdateManagerUpdate.php. That's the form for actually updating your installed contrib code. I believe this is trying to change something about the email notifications and the available updates report itself?

I don't think this is a feature we want in core. This could be done in a contrib module if needed, but from a core point of view we would prefer that people installed updates instead of ignoring them.

Nearly 2 months later, still no explanation of what this is actually wanting to accomplish. As update.module subsystem maintainer, I agree with @longwave in #27 that from what I can tell of what's intended here, it's not something we want in core. Once upon a time (D7), https://www.drupal.org/project/update_advanced → allowed sites more options to configure what got reported. There are a bunch of hooks in core that allow such a contrib module to modify what update.module in core sees. If someone really wanted a "news mode" (?) for their available updates report, they could implement it in contrib.

Therefore, closing this as "won't fix".
