Idea summary

What is the problem to solve?

One of the biggest flaws in Drupal that contributes to new user adoption is the Block Management page. Out of the box D8 almost provides you with everything you need to start building simple pages and once you get a hang of Content Types, Blocks and Views you can almost build a complete site. But as site builder when you start adding multiple blocks but want them to show up on different pages it becomes very difficult to manage page specific visibility.

Who is this for?

Site managers, (advanced) site builders.

Result: what will be the outcome?

The solution? Block Visibility Groups (BVG) β†’ . Block visibility groups is a simplified and more native looking solution for the Context Module as it provides you with a better way to organize blocks that are visible for different conditions. The U.I. is exactly the same as the core block management setup and allows you to have different groups while also creating a default group.

How can we know the desired result is achieved?

(Usability test, a metric to track, feedback)
