Partial usability review
We discussed this today at 📌 Drupal Usability Meeting 2023-07-14 Needs work , it was also previously discussed at #3307567: Drupal Usability Meeting 2022-09-09 → and #3310096: Drupal Usability Meeting 2022-09-23 → .
Those issues will have links to the recordings, the participants in the discussion were: myself, @benjifisher, @rkoller, @simohell and @worldlinemine.
One of the challenges in making recommendations on this issue is that the scope is quite open ended. That's not a bad thing necessarily, but we were not able to complete the discussion at today's meeting (or even at the previous meetings for that matter).
During the meeting we felt it would be more useful to identify specific well-scoped and incremental improvements that could be actioned. We identified three such improvements, and have created child issues for those:
- 📌 Allow uninstalling modules and the modules which are dependent in the same action Needs work
- 📌 Use a bulleted list on the install module confirm form, for parity with the uninstall module confirm form Active
- 📌 On the module list, use a drop/split button for module links Active
We are planning to continue the discussion (hopefully at next week's meeting), which is why this comment is not a complete review.
- Status changed to Postponed

Follow-up usability review
We briefly discussed this issue (again) at 📌 Drupal Usability Meeting 2023-07-21 Needs work .
That issue will have a link to the meeting recording. For the record the attendees were: myself, @benjifisher and @rkoller.
We have decided to mark this issue as postponed on the three issues that we opened last week. Given that this issue does not have a clear solution, we feel that once those three child issues are done, we can revisit this issue and the solution or any further work needed may be clearer. We hope that this will help to give some direction and steer on how to progress here.
We were also mindful that with initiatives like Project Browser and Automatic Updates, those may provide better interfaces and make further improvements to the UX in the install/uninstall area. There is also a wider effort going on to take a more holistic view on reorganising the admin interface, and that may have implications for the ultimate solution here.
