Out of the box, comments list/capture the following fields:
https://skitch.com/jeff.noyes/8ca5w/article-drupalhead.dev
But mange display only lists:
https://skitch.com/jeff.noyes/8ca54/article-drupalhead.dev
As a result, I cannot:
- Collect author, but choose not do display it
- Collect title, but choose not to display it, which results in redundant displays like: https://skitch.com/jeff.noyes/8ca64/i-have-lots-of-wysiwyg-data-drupal-g...
- Change the display of a comment to be different from my input
- Etc.
Additionally, if I add the module 'comment notify' it doesn't show up as a fiel:
- showing the module is enabled and my intentions:
https://skitch.com/jeff.noyes/8c2d6/sed-a-lectus-leo-drupalhead.dev
- showing the fields UI (or lack of one):
https://skitch.com/jeff.noyes/8c2r7/article-drupalhead.dev
- showing the manage display UI (or lack of one):

I raise these questions because we've had clients turn their noses up over Drupal's comment display. In their minds, this is an integral part of building communities. Here's what many customers experience as Drupal's commenting:

When in reality, what they want is this:

To make this happen, we need to allow site builders the opportunity to move contributed comment fields, as well as manage their display. Out of the box, it would be great if Dupal shipped with a solution like:

Not all content is available!
It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
