Events view unexpectedly empty

Created on 23 June 2025, 21 days ago

Problem/Motivation

After installing the Events recipe, a default event has been created, but is not visible in the Events view as expected.

Steps to reproduce

Install Drupal CMS with the Events recipe. On the home page, click into the event, and then on the event page click in the breadcrumbs to navigate to the events view.

Proposed resolution

The view is configured to show upcoming events, but there is no messaging to that effect. The title on the page should either be "Upcoming Events" (so something similar, and the no results message updated too) or the view should be changed to show all events.

Another quick-win approach here would be to adjust the default content to reference some future event (DrupalCon Chicago?), and ensure we have test coverage that the view has something on it.

For Umami we had a similar (kind of) problem with all the articles being created with the exact same datestamp. We solved it by adding a call in the install hook to set each article to have a day between them.

🐛 Umami content is all created in the same second Active

That won't work for a recipe, unfortunately, since recipes can't contain any code (nor can they affect imported content dynamically).

How about we set a precedent to have default content for any upcoming DrupalCons? That is assuming the event recipe is staying in Drupal CMS.

We could do that but I think we'll just end up with the same bug next year. :-\

Not if we add DrupaCon Europe 2026, and North America 2027 nodes when they are announced.
