Member Platform Slack Meeting on February 6, 2025

Created on 12 February 2025, about 2 months ago

0️⃣ Who is here today? Please post your Drupal.org username (for issue credit) if you have one, and mention a non-profit or other membership organization (MO) you think could benefit from this initiative. (edited)

1️⃣ This project needs a permanent name! Looking back at the past Zoom meeting notes for inspiration, what name(s) would you suggest? One suggestion per reply please so everyone can react with emojis. (edited)

2️⃣ CRMs in Drupal. Tracking people and their memberships for an organization strongly implies building or using a CRM as the base for this project. @JD Leonard (jdleonard) researched existing CRM options in modern Drupal and found two projects with recent activity: CRM (note: not CRM Core ) and Contacts . Consider installing them to test them out. Which of these seems most suitable to build on? See any problems with either? Any other options to consider? Is there a compelling reason to build our own?

3️⃣ MVP (Minimal Viable Product). In your mind, what should be the minimal set of requirements for a 1.0 release. This would not include all the things think are appropriate for this project; just enough for someone to install and evaluate the project for potential use by an organization.

4️⃣ Mission, Vision, and Principles. On our last Zoom meeting we refined the project’s mission statement, vision, and principles. (This is distinct from a roadmap, which we’ll get to shortly). Particularly for those who couldn’t make that Zoom meeting (but question is for everyone), how do you feel about what is drafted at the previous link? Any changes/additions/removals you would propose?

5️⃣ Competitive Analysis. Here’s a doc for collaborating on evaluating existing solutions that might meet the needs of the less well resourced membership organizations that we are targeting. In the doc, click “Share” and add yourself as an Editor. Please add any missing competitors you are aware of. Highlight a competitor and add a comment assigning analysis of that competitor to yourself. Under the heading for that competitor, share any information you think might be relevant e.g. whether the competitor would be suitable for our target audience, key or unique features, advantages/disadvantages, pricing, screenshots.

6️⃣ Real membership organizations’ needs. @Brian put together a great example of a set of requirements for a real MO. Can anyone else contribute something similar? Having a diverse set of real organizations’ requirements in mind will help ensure we are building something that will actually get used!

7️⃣ Feature brainstorm. As an input into a proper roadmap, what features would you like to see in MOP (eventually)? This exercise was started in our first Zoom meeting and documented in its notes. Let’s continue that here with a larger audience. Feel free to duplicate / expand on features brainstormed in our first meeting.

8️⃣ Non-goals. What should MOP not attempt to do? What should be explicitly out of scope for the open source project?

9️⃣ Funding MOP. Should the open source project seek funding? When should funding be solicited (e.g. before/after MVP?) Who should be solicited for funding? Who would do that soliciting? How should funds be used?

1️⃣0️⃣ Additional agenda items. Please create a new numbered thread following the same format. This meeting will continue asynchronously until Friday, February 7 at 10am CST.

1️⃣1️⃣ For this first Slack meeting, I’m going to ping everyone in the channel. However, going forward I’ll only ping those who say they want to be pinged. Please comment in this thread if you would like to receive a mention in this channel when the next Slack meeting begins in two weeks’ time. Or DM me your email address if you’d like to receive a calendar invite for the Slack meetings and/or Zoom meetings.
