How to handle sites with Radix 4 themes as we move to Drupal 11?

Created on 4 February 2025, 2 months ago

I've started updating a number of sites to Drupal 11 and found that they will require that I upgrade Radix to the 6.x branch. Of course this is not practical for a theme which was built using Bootstrap 4 as too much of the UI would break.

One option I've been considering is to create a "radix4" theme which just contains the required template files which our sub-themes can continue to inherit but which doesn't have any of the components/starter kit code in it.

Is there a plan to maintain the 4.x branch of Radix against Drupal 11 so that we can continue to support these sites built against Bootstrap 4?

Perhaps similar to 🐛 Drupal 10 compatibility for Bootstrap 4 - Please tag 4.13 based on head of 8.x-4.x Fixed we could get a tagged release with D11 support (maybe with limited/no support for the starterkit stuff). Just so that older themes have something to work with.
