We can probably set the default display to use an image style to get around this.
In Drupal CMS, there is a warning about SVGs not using image styles:
The default display for the SVG Image media type is not currently using an image style on the Image field. Not using an image style can lead to much larger file downloads. If you would like to change this, add an image style to the Image field.
I'm not sure, but it's confusing and not really fixable by the user. Can we suppress this warning for SVGs?
