Javascript alert not working when waiting for 5 or more seconds

Problem/Motivation

Once you enable the module and click on an external link, the warning popup comes up but if you wait a few seconds (5+) before clicking OK, the popup does not react.

Steps to reproduce

Enable the module
Enable the Display a pop-up warning when any external link is clicked. option
Click on an external link in a menu
