Config imports of facets leads to fatal errors

When performing a config import of facets that target Search API fields which are new and part of the import, the import runs into exceptions like

Drupal\Core\Config\ConfigException: Errors occurred during import in Drush\Drupal\Commands\config\ConfigImportCommands->doImport() (line 310 of /var/www/ht  
  ml/vendor/drush/drush/src/Drupal/Commands/config/ConfigImportCommands.php).

    The import failed due to the following reasons:                                                                                                                      
                                                                                                                                                                         
    Unexpected error during import with operation create for facets.facet.XYZ: No available query types were found for facet XYZ
