We only need to change the existing schema types to label, which makes the strings translatable.

I think this core issue: 🐛 Entity view/form mode formatter/widget settings have no translation UI Needs review will need to be fixed before it will work.

Yes via UI this only works in views. but technically schema needs this anyway.

Hi, I've tested this issue on Drupal version 9.5.12-dev. I was able to reproduce this & the patch also applied successfully for me but the Read More text still not showing for translation. This might be not working due to the issues mentioned in the comment- #8. Sharing below the steps I have followed here-
Steps to reproduce- Installed Drupal- 9.5
- Installed the Smart Trim module.
- Created content & created a view of content fields with the body field as smart trimmed.
- Enable "Display more link". In the "More link text", entered the string as "Read More>"
- Go to> admin/config/regional/translate- And search for the text "Read More" - no results showing.
- Status changed to Needs work

As per above comment, the issue still persist after applying patch so, this issue still need works
