Migration from D7 to D8 fails with many "Invalid object" errors

When I attempt an upgrade from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8, the upgrade fails and I see numerous errors like the following:

Migration failed with source plugin exception: SQLSTATE[42S02]: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'mydatabase.dbo.migrate_map_d7_aggregator_feed'. in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mysite\web\modules\contrib\sqlsrv\drivers\lib\Drupal\Driver\Database\sqlsrv\Connection.php line 582

I checked the database after attempting the upgrade and the dbo.migrate_map_* tables referenced in the error messages do exist, though they are all empty.

As you can see from the error, the site uses an SQL Server database.

What do these "Invalid object name" errors mean, and how should I address this?

Thank you.

Drupal 8 is unsupported here. You should instead be migrating to Drupal 10, or if absolutely necessary, Drupal 9.

It's not clear if Drupal 10 is a good option at this time. The sqlsrv project page says: "Initial D10 support currently under testing and development. Please use 4.3.x for production." https://www.drupal.org/project/sqlsrv β†’

Version 4.3.x does not support Drupal 10.

@arnoldbird, thanks for reporting back. Since you will be moving to migrating to Drupal 9, I am going to close this issue.

If there are further problems. open a new issue, thanks. You can also join Drupal slack and ask in #migration.

    Cheers
