An update from the maintainers of the Linkit module: ✨ Linkit for Link field Fixed was recently merged into the 6.0.x branch, which is D10-compatible. So potentially at this point, we can combine efforts directly in Linkit to support this functionality going forward.
#1 worked for me - composer require drupal/linkit "6.0.x-dev as 5.0"
