Better Exposed Filters Project - Update Categories

Created on 29 May 2022, over 2 years ago

The Project Browser Initiative is working on a new page for adding and installing modules. The default display of the Project Browser will show Drupal modules that have a release that is compatible with the version of Drupal the site is using. A card will be displayed for each of the modules (projects). The key components displayed on the card will include a logo, a short description and the categories this module belongs to.

The number of categories was recently reduced from 55 down to 19 to help folks searching for modules to more effectively use the category filter.

First, read through the moduleโ€™s project page on Drupal.org - Better Exposed Filters โ†’ . If needed, spin up the module on SimplyTest.me or DrupalPod to understand what the module does. Then review the Category Definitions and suggest 1-3 categories for the module. (When in doubt, err on the side of fewer, not more!)

I think the best fit category for this module is probably Content Display.

  • I'd like to propose adding the following categories to the list

    • Content Display -
    • Content Editing Experience - because it can enhance typical admin pages like /content etc
    • Site Search - because exposed filters are often used for advanced search both in the admin and frontend

The project doesn't identify any categories https://www.drupal.org/project/better_exposed_filters โ†’

Adding recommendations from @bhogue in the summary an order that makes more sense to me. I still think this needs review, but we could let the maintainers make those decisions.

My understanding of this module is that it replaces the standard Exposed Filters on Views with an enhanced version with improved functionality.

I don't see how it fits in Content Editing Experience. Could you explain this please, @bhogue?

I can see that exposed filters are a form of content search, but I'm skeptical that this is what someone would be looking looking for when browsing under the Site Search category.

The one category I'm happy with is Content Display. The module improves filtering options when content is displayed in a view, so I suggest that should be the primary category. I've updated the summary to move this first.

Leaving at Needs Review for now.

chrisfromredfin and I reviewed this and feel that this falls under Administration tools. It's not really about how the content is displayed.
