Enable Media Edit with inline media entities within text fields using CKEditor WYSIWYG

Created on 13 February 2022, over 2 years ago

Problem/Motivation

Currently Media Entity Link only works with field widgets. This would be helpful on inline media entities as well.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable Media in text format using CKEditor
  2. Edit an inline media entity

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.

I also think it would be good feature, otherwise it's hard to explain content editors that they need to go somewhere else to edit image.
In the meantime I'm using "Media Library Edit" module together with https://www.drupal.org/project/edit_media_modal β†’ . Both modules work fine together, although it would make much more sense to have both features in one module :)

This is out of scope for module, which only works on fields, not on the WYSIWYG editor.

As @besek mentions, the Edit Media Modal β†’ can give you the functionality you want, make sure to add the ckeditor 5 patch ✨ Support CKEditor5 Needs review so it can work with ckeditor 5.

I suggest listing Edit Media Modal in the docs and project page.
