Did you silently admit that expand_collapse_formatter module is a copy of readmore module?
In the 2 years that have passed, have features changed? What are the differences now?- Currently the usage stats are slightly in favour of readmore, even if it only has an unstable D10 release.
- Both seem to accumulate a few open issues since last year.
- As for the name, this one suggests a more general usecases coverage (and doesn't depend on core's field module), but are they implemented?
- Looking just at the javascript part of the source code, I can see that readmore module uses jQuery, while expand_collapse_formatter uses Drupal core's once library, so it has 1 less dependency?
I guess because of 3 & 4 I would suggest this first, but please let us know about features & plans differences and eventually consider merging them :)
- Status changed to Closed: works as designed

@colan it's quite obvious that this module uses a very different technique from readmore module. Its functionality is hiding the text in frontend, using JS. No reload is required to show the remaining text. Readmore is server-side (php) and needs a reload to read more, similar to smart_trim. So it much more looks like readmore is kind of a duplicate of smart_trim that exists for very long.
I'm saying this so clear, as your statement on the readme module page reads a bit aggressive ;)
This is open source and the community is free to create its projects. The user decides, which one to use. Let's be allies :)Closing this works as designed, as the differences and their different use-cases are now clear.
Thank you!
