When trying to save a 'custom' date configuration, I get this Ajax error

To reproduce
- Add a date_recur field to an 'event' content type
- Configure with the Sierra form widget in the form display
- Create an event node
- In repeating dropdown, select 'custom'
- make changes in modal and click save on modal
- User sees ajax error in console and the select dropdown does not update
An AJAX HTTP error occurred.
