Add option to use autocomplete rather than select list

Has anyone solved this problem, I am also interested.

Why is this closed as "works as designed"?

IMO it would be a massive UX improvement.

The option to use autocomplete can be done by the default functionality of drupal

When we first stepped on this issue, we couldn't find out why this is needed since the functionality exists in core. I edit the summary to clarify things for other people too...

ChrisaChrist → changed the visibility of the branch verf-autocomplete to hidden.

I opened the two MRs in order to better understand the changes proposed in each one.
It seems that MR!13 is actually in WIP state.
MR!12 on the other hand seems to be the one we should go on with.

MR 12 applies nicely to the latest version and delivers a dropdown option. Thanks very much!

All of my exposed filters seem to stop working when I add an autocomplete exposed filter.
The autocomplete filter never finds any results, it only seems to load for a few miliseconds and then stops.
My other filters do not work and they also do not retain their value when I press the apply button.
This seems to happen either when AJAX is enabled or disabled.
Everything works fine when I switch the autocomplete to a dropdown.

@EliasPapa et al, seems like I jumped the gun. When I updated existing views to use the dropdown option, all was well. But when I create new filters in new views and set them to use "dropdown", I get search boxes next to each dropdown filter and like EliasPapa reports, the values are always empty.
