WI: Add archive and purge to the entity storage API

Problem/Motivation

See #2725447: WI: Phase D: Enable archive/purge storage β†’

Proposed resolution

  • Add a new purge method to \Drupal\Core\Entity\EntityStorageInterface
  • Deprecate the delete method in favour of purge in \Drupal\Core\Entity\EntityStorageInterface
  • Deprecate hook_entity_delete()
  • Invoke both hook_entity_purge() and hook_entity_delete (for BC) in the purge method

This is a child issue of #2725463: WI: Add StatusItem field type to store archived state β†’ where we're adding the archive base field definition to all revisionable entities, adding the setArchived() and isArchived() methods, and adding to buildQuery() to only return non-archived entities.

    Thank you for sharing your idea for improving Drupal.

    We are working to decide if this proposal meets the Criteria for evaluating proposed changes. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or there is no community support. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

    Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
