Removing shared file from translation does not remove from other language

Updated 11 July 2023, over 1 year ago

Problem/Motivation

  1. Install in English.
  2. Install Content translation (and its dependencies).
  3. On admin/config/regional/content-language click Content and then click translatable on Article. Save settings. (Note that the image itself should be shared among translations with these settings).
  4. Create article with image.
  5. Add translation (keep image).
  6. Update image in original (or translation). Observe that its updated in both original and translated. Good.
  7. Remove image from one translation.
  8. Image only removed from that translation.

Proposed resolution

Should it be removed from all translations? We are expecting it to be shared, so it should, no? However that would result in the whole image field delta removed from all translations not just the image per say or we leave titles and alt texts without an image around.

Remaining tasks

Figure out what is the expected behavior. Fix.

(Drupal 8 Multilingual Initiative) is the tag used by the multilingual initiative to mark core issues (and some contributed module issues). For versions other than Drupal 8, use the i18n (Internationalization) tag on issues which involve or affect multilingual / multinational support. That is preferred over Translation.
