Review image test suite

Problem/Motivation

There are a lot of tests related to image, image styles, image fields, image effects, image toolkits, GD toolkit, image toolkit operations as simpletest and phpunit test.

I'm not sure that the whole test suite is consistent. It seems more than tests were added over time and there's no "big picture".

Proposed resolution

Review all image related tests and provide a recommendation (in this ticket) on how to reorganize them. For example I would move all component tests to phpunit. Other aspect that needs attention is if we have tests that are overlapping, testing the same thing (and I remember that I saw such cases).

Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
