Problem

  • Some modules are generating and registering multiple static routes derived from other data in hook_menu(), whereas a single dynamic route would be technically correct and sufficient.
  • These modules just need to display tabs/local tasks links that allow to reach the dynamic route, but have no simple way for doing so.

Goal

  • Introduce a tab expansion facility for local tasks that are based on configuration.

Proposed solution

  1. First, #1864066: Simplify hook_menu_local_tasks() and MENU_DEFAULT_LOCAL_TASK usage →
  2. Extract the tab expansion code from the three issues mentioned above into the menu system and generalize it.

    Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

    We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

    Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
