Hi droodpal,

Maybe there's a sound reason for taking  that option out, and if so I'd like to hear about it. But in a matter that basic (adding modules to extend the website's functionality) it seems like the wrong move indeed! So I agree with you.

Hi wombatbuddy,

Like I wrote in my latest reply mail, this module works like a charm, and is easy to upload, activate and install from within the <site>/admin/modules section in the standard site management. After installing it that way, I tested it on now a couple of pages having a load of revisions. And after changing and saving, it now only holds the set number of revisions! Great work! Very grateful!

Sent you an email

Hi wombatbuddy

That would be great! And I'm willing to test it, if needed. And capable of offering a (small) financial contribution.

Hi wombatbuddy,

Thanks for your quick reply in the first place. Not being a very savvy Drupal user,* I wonder what you would suggest and whether that could conflict with my automated Drupal version updating system that I set with my hosting provider (using DirectAdmin management with the Installatron plugin). A specialize module type of solution maybe?

What I was wondering about in my initial message, was a kind of feature extension to the Drupal 'base code', available for everyone.

* Not familiar with the use of Composer on my hosted site, for example.

Nice evening for you too!

Hi ressa,

And another thank you! ;-) Alas, that module was installed, but is incompatible with my 11.0.8 version of Drupal. So that's a no-go. Anyone else maybe, with a working solution? In case I find one myself, experimenting after making a sit backup, I'll report that here.

Hi ressa,

Thanks for your advice! Set it up and am going to try it out one of the coming days. In case of additional questions, I'll report back!

Where then do I find the error report?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

I was running into the same problem. Previous appreciated and much used function suddenly missing. As already mentioned, for some reason that option has been taken out of Drupal 11. For me, having ftps access to my website, I can add modules and themes to the appropriate online folders after unpacking them locally. And the  install / activate them in the usual way from the admin pages of my website interface. Maybe, hopefully that works for you too.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi

I already posted that in my initial message.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

Just tried the local unpack and ftp upload route. And it seems to work. My https://*.kwetal.nl/admin/modules sees the just uploaded module, and installing it from there appears to work. No error messages.

Of course I made sure I have a backup before doing this.

Hi,

Thanks for this pointer. I'll look into that too! Always learning ... ;-)

Hi dd trung,

Thanks again for your reply. I do have ftp access to my hosting account, and see a whole number of composer.json _* and composer.lock_* files in the root of my site. I'm going to see how I can SSH into that root folder, and try and find the composer commands to install a specific module.

A thought: Would it be possible to unpack the downloaded module.tar.gz on my computer and upload the unpacked modules folder, and then install it from https://cms.kwetal.nl/admin/modules ?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi ddt trung,

Thanks for your extensive reply and explanation. For the moment I pass on Composer and will wait for 'the perfect platform'. Will that be introduced in a later 11.x.x version? Or not until the bigger upgrade to Drupal 12? Just interested.

Have been using Drupal for my websites since early versions 7, and am very content with this CMS! But limited in my technical skills 'under the hood'.

Hi,

The error message when confirming the uninstall of Google Analytics module is this: The website encountered an unexpected error. Try again later.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Since I'm running my website with a hosting company, using Installatron plugin, I've been able to do anything I want from there. Not familiar with how I can make Composer running in such a situation, and not familiar with PHP or JavaScript either, that has been and still is quite a hurdle to me.

No idea why such an important easy way to manage modules has been stripped from Drupal, but I think that has been a very bad thing for non PHP or JSON savvy users! I hate that move!

Any idea how to add modules now?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

Problem has been solved by restoring a hosting provider backup from two days ago, and recreating the few changes that have been made since then. I´d welcome replies and suggestions though, in case somthing like this would again happen. Have a great weekend!

Hi ressa,

Thanks for your reply, but I know nothing about drush, so wouldn´t know how to use that on a hosted website. And where do I find those PHP logs from the website interface (or online in a Drupal site's folder structure?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi Michaeljohn009 (why not 007? ;-) )

Thanks for your suggestion but I'd prefer a function from within CKeditor 5. Still looking how to realize that. In the meantime I've found some 'kludges' that work for me at the moment.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi wombatty,

Like I mentioned in my previous reply, I looked into the first link you supplied in your reply. But alas, I must confess that that's beyond my capacities (at the moment). SO I'm still looking for a module allowing me to integrate the image editing options available in this forum editor. Or else a step by step way to integrate the github repository in my hosted situation.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi wombatbuddy,

Thanks for your reply. I'm already using the plugin pack. That solved the lack of font editing options in the standard CKE 5 version. But itś still missing the image editing options that I need. They appear to be available though. When you click the image icon in this editor it displays the options that I'm looking for. But I can't find the appropriate module. Nothing but the github 'raw material'.

But I'm going to look into your first suggestion.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Just found this metapackage on github: https://github.com/ckeditor/ckeditor5/tree/master/packages/ckeditor5-image

But I have no idea how to install / insert this into my existing, hosted Drupal 10 site. Any tips?

Hi VM,

Thanks for the quick reply. And indeed I adapted the .htaccess file, so I'll make sure that one is added to the new setup too! Seems to be simpler than I feared ... ;-)

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

Being the initiator of this discussion line, after all replies, factually giving no solution, I give up on CKeditor 5 as a useful editor for creating new pages for my site. Until this is complete I'll stick to using Drupal 7 editor for creating new pages and import the html in the CKeditor five of my Drupal 10 install. This import works perfectly fine! A bit of a kludge, but for now it works very well for me.

Thanks for all the answers, but I'll stick with my present approach!

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Thanks a lot! Adding that 'simple' */ before the actual settings made all the difference.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. This is what I have in my settings.php (including the demonstrating comment, beginning at line 713 just for clarity):

* For example:
 * @code
 * $settings['trusted_host_patterns'] = [
 *   '^example\.com$',
 *   '^.+\.example\.com$',
 *   '^example\.org$',
 *   '^.+\.example\.org$',
 * ];
 * @endcode
 * will allow the site to run off of all variants of example.com and
 * example.org, with all subdomains included.
 *
 * @see https:/
 @code
 $settings['trusted_host_patterns'] = [
   '^cms\.kwetal\.nl$',
 ];
 @endcode

AFAICT that should be okay. Or should I remove the comment asterisk before @see https:/ too?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

Thanks for your extensive explanation. Already tried the second option on a test site running the same version of Drupal, but that failed, alas. So that's no real option either. Have been looking into installing Composer on my webhosting package. That should be possible through SSH, using PUTTY. But that is unknown territory for me and needs some more reading up and trying (trial and error on a test website aside my main). I'll be looking into that when I have sufficient time to get familiar with that approach. For now I'll wait for someone that maybe has an easier way ... No real problem, because I have all the editing option I need through Drupal 7, and CKeditor4. Copying and pasting, a bit of a kludge, but workable! ;-)

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi, thanks, but like I already replied to slewazimuth, I don´t use Composer. I found a plugin on the Drupal site here:  https://www.drupal.org/project/ckeditor5_font . But when installing it it a test site running the latest Drupal 10, it says it needs CKeditor (Deprecated for Drupal 10) and does not add any extra option in CKeditor 5. Any idea what goes wrong there? Other ideas maybe?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi, thanks for your tip. But I don't work with Composer. Any other way, maybe to achieve what I need? TIA.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

That's indeed what I mean.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi,

Just tried to update after changing my present theme (Tata Pro) into something more simple and standard, but ran into the same error message after updating. Made a couple of attempts, but no go ... So in my case it seems that the core of the problem is not the theme rendering ... Doing some more research ...

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. Did you change your Gin theme for something else before a successful upgrade? And if so, what theme?

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Thanks. If you have any tips, please let me know.

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi there,

You more or less confirm my suspicions. My provider does not support cms systems like Drupal, while they do have some support for WordPress.

Having run Linux on my machines for over ten years, I'm quite familiar with terminal commands, and often manage my Linus system that way. Having a dual boot Linux on this laptop, I already installed Composer in the second setup, and am going to install Drupal there too and see what I can do. For installing Linux on Ubuntu (running Kubuntu myself) I found this link: https://www.ubuntumint.com/install-drupal-ubuntu/ Do you have any suggestions for a better approach? Uploading through sftp is no problem. Using FileZilla here. Works pretty straightforward.

Thanks for your help. And in case of success, I'll report back here, of course. Maybe with some tips for others, running into the same problems ...

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi there,

At first a lot of appreciation for your help to this 'newbie'.

The /vendor.doctrine folder is present, but the remaining /common/src/Util/Debug.php is missing. So it seems that can´t be the problem. And regarding working in the 'bowels' of my Drupal system: I do that through FTP, creating an adapted *.PHP (Renderer.php in this case) locally and then uploading it to the correct place on my website. I've never worked with Composer, so unfamiliar with that. I've been tempted to give that a try in the past, but left that alone. My website is hosted at a Dutch hosing company (antagonist.nl) that uses DirectAdmin and Installatron to manage the website. Backing up my files and my MySQL database is no problem.

My question; what's the best option now ...

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

With the second option the updated website (10.0.9) does load but looks weird. How can I add a screenshot?

When I remove the // from both lines and reload the website I get this error message:

Er is onverwacht een fout opgetreden. Probeer het later nog eens.

Error: Class "Doctrine\Common\Util\Debug" not found in Drupal\devel\Plugin\Devel\Dumper\DoctrineDebug->export() (line 25 of modules/devel/src/Plugin/Devel/Dumper/DoctrineDebug.php).

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Hi there,

Thanks for the detailed reply and instructions. I'm pretty inexperienced in 'entering the belly' of Drupal management and tuning, but always willing to learn. the devel module isn´t present in my install but I'm going to add and enable it. If I have any question, I'll report back here! ;-)\

🇳🇱Netherlands dirke

Similar error message as reported. After adding the echo count($callback);exit; at line 788 in renderer.php and calling my website I get 0 as reply. trying to load a specific page I get 2 as reply. No idea what's wrong here. but upgrading fails. FYI I'm running PHP 8.2 with my 9.5.9 website without any problems. Before upgrading I've disabled and uninstalled / removed all unsupported themes / deprecated modules.

Anybody advise?
