It looks like a malformed config. Not sure exactly what fixed it. I am getting another error but closing this because I no longer see this error.

I agree with @fabianderijk. I tested it and it resolves the original issue.

I toggled it on and it didn't create an account on the website. I toggled it off and it created the account. It works as described.
I did run into a very MINOR issue which may or may not be necessary to fix...
under that same settings page /admin/config/system/o365/settings/sso
I turned ON (ticked)
"Hide the login form"
"Automatically redirect users to the SSO login page."
"Redirect after login to destination URL"
"Disable creating new users"
It creates an infinite redirect loop and it looks like the loop is coming from the callback URL.
If I turn off "hide the login form" and "automatically redirect users to the SSO login page", I see the "error message" you are talking about which is great.
Something very minor. Great work though!

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on this. I've hoped it was resolved by this month but I can see that it's not until mid May / Q2.
Confirmed, this is working for me. I used the issue fork from Embed Module with this issue's fork.

I am facing the same issue. I applied the patch from #18 but it doesn't do anything for me to test. This looks exactly the same patch as what was submitted as a merge request.
Am I missing something?
