There is an RTBC'd patch for version 7.x-2.6 at 🐛 array offset notice RTBC

This is a very minor addition which has been working just fine, so I'm setting it to RTBC.

The above patches had a bunch of other stuff in them, related to adding the "substitutions" feature.

Here is a nice clean one against dev+10 if anyone still wants/needs it. Just a simple one-liner.
