This worked for me (10 minutes):
- a) using PHPMYADMIN - export in SQL format database tables node__field_NAME and node_revision__field_NAME
- b) empty or truncate database tables node__field_NAME and node_revision__field_NAME
- c) Using Drupal Interface resize the text field as you wish.
- d)Drop /delete database tables node__field_NAME and node_revision__field_NAME
- e) Import database tables node__field_NAME and node_revision__field_NAME which were previously exported in SQL format per a) above
