In order to help ensure as-painless-core-updates-as-possible, we should provide some kind of backup & restore functionality for both db snapshots as well as code. Basically a light version of Backup and Migrate → for D8 plus handling compressing actual Drupal code files.

There hasn't been any further discussion here since soon after this issue was created 11 years ago. Is this still a desire feature for core?
Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, I am setting the status to Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
