Hello Drupalists,

Is it possible to i) integrate the PHP library Net/IDNA into future releases of Drupal; and ii) capture the decoded Internationalized Domain Name (IDN), if any?

The code for doing so is minimal and straight forward. For instance:

require_once('Net/IDNA.php'); # You must install Net/IDNA

$is_idn_domain_name = 0; # Assume not IDN until proven otherwise
$this_decoded_domain_name = $this_domain_name; # Assume that the domain name returned by the web server is not IDN (not xn--<...>)

# IDNA:
$idna = Net_IDNA::getInstance();
if ($idna = Net_IDNA::getInstance()) {
if ($this_decoded_domain_name = $idna->decode($this_domain_name)) { # If the domain name returned by the server can be decoded (converted into IDN), then the decoded domain name (non-ASCII) is the result of decoding the domain name
$is_idn_domain_name = 1; # Set a flag: The domain name is an IDN
}
}

Any thoughts on this?

    Thank you for sharing your idea for improving Drupal.

    We are working to decide if this proposal meets the Criteria for evaluating proposed changes. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or there is no community support. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

    Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
