Will Tools → Agents → Assistants remain the flagship of Drupal AI?
Yes, that is the idea. Assistants might be add-on to agents though later.
Drupal AI has already done what nobody else in the AI world has. From Drupal’s content system it generates Tools, combines them into capabilties for Agents, and orchestrates those Agents into Assistants. This isn’t just AI inside Drupal — it’s Drupal becoming an ecosystem of intelligence, capable of translating itself into anything digital that is content which is about 80% of our Digital space. If you protect this path, you are leading. If you pivot to prompts, you are only catching up.
First, thank you. The work you’ve done with Drupal AI is extraordinary. It opened a doorway to a new way of interacting with intelligence — one that no other platform has made possible.
What makes it extraordinary is the Tools → Agents → Assistants framework. From Drupal’s content system you created Tools, add them as capabilities into Agents, and orchestrated them into Assistants. And allowing us to build instructions on top of those, that is extraordinary! That model lets me do something remarkable: not only create, but evaluate, compare, and discuss and much more. With it, I could build an Assistant that thinks like a philosopher, or a physicist, or even a multidisciplinary mind capable of looking at one topic from many perspectives at once. This is Drupal AI’s unique signature.
The Automator has its place when the goal is to create or automate actions. But it cannot be the centerpiece. Because you already have something far more important: a framework that composes intelligence itself. Everyone talks about context but your tools -> agents -> assistants does more than talk; it makes it possible if one has the imagination to build it.
That is why I was concerned when I saw signs that Drupal AI may be leaning toward Prompt Types and prompt engineering. Prompt engineering is everywhere. It’s a commodity, already mature in places like WordPress, SaaS tools, and SDKs. To follow that hype is to play catch-up. To continue with Tools → Agents → Assistants is to lead.
So I ask you with respect:
Will Tools → Agents → Assistants remain the flagship of Drupal AI?
Or is the roadmap shifting so that prompt engineering becomes the core?
If it is the latter, I respect your decision. But I ask that you let us know now, so adopters like me can make informed choices.
Please don’t underestimate what you’ve done. This is more than “AI in Drupal.” It is a way to translate Drupal into anything. That is your signature. That is leadership.
Thank you again for your work — and for clarifying the path forward.
