Fatal error on new node preview

Problem/Motivation

Error: Error: Call to a member function bundle() on null in Drupal\footnotes\Plugin\Filter\FootnotesFilter->process() (line 187 of /code/web/modules/contrib/footnotes/src/Plugin/Filter/FootnotesFilter.php)

Steps to reproduce

Start to create a new node with a footnote and click on Preview

Proposed resolution

Do not assume that the node is always present
