Proposal for group: Event Platform

Created on 11 December 2024, 4 months ago

1. Description.

The Event Platform โ†’ initiative has been seeing participation from North America, Europe, and Asia. We need a place to collaborate and plan meetings.

2. Search for overlapping groups.

A search on groups.drupal.org did not uncover any existing groups, and the name space (URL alias) does not currently exist.

3. Body.

4. List of organizers (with links to drupal.org profiles)

mandclu is the current, main organizer. Previous participants include kclarkson and mherchel. froboy and johnpicozzi, both of the Event Organizers Working Group, have attended, among a variety of others.

As described in Forming a new group โ†’ , the group must first be created, and then an issue which provides a link to the group is posted on this queue. The group is reviewed; if it passes review, it is removed from the moderation queue. That makes the group accessible to everybody.

Apologies, I didn't realize I was able to access the group while it is still pending moderation. I have added a link to the group in the issue summary.

Also, the template includes a "Body" section but I wasn't sure what is intended to go in here. I'd be happy to provide content here if someone could provide some direction.

Effectively, the documentation needs to be corrected. It says If you followed the steps above, you have already created an issue requesting that your group be moderated. Here is how the process works. but the previous steps did not say an issue must be created, nor exactly what the issue needs to provide.

That said, the group gets a +1 from me. A second review from another moderator is necessary. Without that, after seven days the group will be approved (since I gave a +1).

I would add that, lately, the "trend" is no longer creating groups on groups.drupal.org, but community projects โ†’ on drupal.org, which are described as:

Community projects can be used for any purpose that supports or enhances the Drupal project and community. Examples could be non-code projects used to manage groups or initiatives within the Drupal community such as Drupal camps or working groups. They donโ€™t contain modules or themes for use on other websites.

Iโ€™ve approved the group. Please note that groups.drupal.org is on life support, since we have not found the time to prioritize replacing it. Weโ€™ll aim to replace what is practical, but its functionality might be more-heavily deprecated or removed in the future. Collaborating in other spaces is encouraged.

Thanks @drumm. We already have a project open for tracking discussion. We mainly wanted a place where people can opt-in to be automatically notified when new events are posted.

Events will likely be the next thing to be turned off on groups.drupal.org since we built https://www.drupal.org/community/events โ†’ to replace it

  • Automatically closed - issue fixed for 2 weeks with no activity.
