Translate strings provided by Drupal CMS

Created on 24 November 2024, 4 months ago

Problem/Motivation

Currently if you switch the language in the installer, only existing translated Drupal strings are actually shown in the desired language. Custom strings from Drupal CMS are not translated. We need to ensure that all strings provided by Drupal CMS are translated and will be shown in a correct language if the users choose one.

Steps to reproduce

Open the Drupal CMS installer and change language. Strings provided by Drupal core are translated, other strings provided by Drupal CMS are not.

Proposed resolution

Translate all strings provided by Drupal CMS.

    Just adding some background info.

The things we need for Drupal CMS strings to get translated are:

    * Having the project/s available and the strings translated on LDO, it looks like it's already there, https://localize.drupal.org/translate/projects/cms
    * Having a language selector back somehow, which was removed at #3497951 πŸ“Œ Consider removing languages from the installer Active
    * Having the "Drupal CMS" thing - whatever it is, profile? module? as a downloadable string pack

And then, of course, having the 'Recipes' translated, but that's a whole different story, see related issues

Not really reopening yet - but planning for the next future...
