Consider moving "items per page" and perhaps the "sort by" select components next to the grid/list toggles

Problem/Motivation

At the moment you are entering the search term you are looking for into the search field to receive an initial number of results. That number of results you are then able to further narrow down within the filter fieldset by setting the select components to your needs. after that you are able to browse the resulting narrowed down list of modules. There are currently three ways you are able to adjust the appearance that list:

  1. Change the order by relevance or the date of being added
  2. Display the modules in a list view or a card view
  3. Decide the number of modules displayed per page

But the problem is those three options are scattered across the admin/modules/browse, (1) is within the filter fieldset, (2) at the beginning of the search results, while (3) is at the end of the search results. You dont have a central place were you are able to adjust the visual representation of the search results.

Consider moving the "Items per page" and or the "Sort by" select component right next to the list/grid toggle button. So the user is able to make adjustments in a central place instead of jumping in between the different places on the browse page.

    Usability review

    We discussed this issue briefly at 📌 Drupal Usability Meeting 2024-12-13 Active . That issue has a link to a recording of the meeting.

    For the record, the attendees at the usability meeting were @aaronmchale, @benjifisher, @rkoller, @shaal, and @simohell.

    We agree with the recommendation of this issue. The Search and Filter controls affect what is shown, and that section of the form is already pretty complicated. The Sort control should be moved out of that section and next to the Display toggle (list or grid).

    We did not discuss Items per page, but I think that also belongs above the results, not next to the pager.
