Thanks @smustgrave, the update is removed from 11.x, so that's the reason we live in 10.x-land in this issue.
The Needs Review Queue Bot → tested this issue. It no longer applies to Drupal core. Therefore, this issue status is now "Needs work".

This should be fixed in Drush or we going to keep on causing problems like this. Drush's JSON encoder needs to be robust enough to deal with this.
