Problem/Motivation

We can speed this test up by around 2/3rds by not using data providers. It's currently the longest kernel test (in fact, two kernel tests due to the workspaces subclass) by far.

Steps to reproduce

On my local:

Before:

Time: 01:12.370, Memory: 6.00 MB

OK (53 tests, 1472 assertions)

After:

.................                                                 17 / 17 (100%)

Time: 00:25.718, Memory: 6.00 MB

OK (17 tests, 738 assertions)
