How do you show the results when the filter is NOT in the URL?

Problem/Motivation

Looking at the screenshots on the project page, it seems like you can show the Views results even when the contextual filters are not active.
I can see you are using a Views attachment display, but then how to hide its results when a contextual filter is activated, so that we don't have them twice (from the attachment and the main display)?

The screenshot on the project page shows a view where the filter is active, but using the default (first) value. Note that the first tab shows as selected. This project was originally developed to support the sessions listing in the Event Platform → , so you can look at the session schedule view to see how it is intended to be used.
